Does a child need to memorize multiplication table?

Talking about multiplication table, I only have a dim memory of when I started chanting those numbers. It should be in my early primary school days, I had to repeatedly chanting in Chinese language. '2 2 4', '3 3 9', '7 7 49', '8 8 64', '9 9 81'. Slightly different from my 'kebangsaan' school, this version of multiplication table chant, taught by my father, seemed a little more easier and faster.  A child should be able to memorize multiplication table in primary school. Some children, as young as six years old, could memorize it with ease.
After all, children could remember Barney songs, Frozen songs, Clash of clans strategies, even TV commercials.

In mathematics, having multiplication table on finger tips (literally in the head) is absolutely vital, especially for topics such as division, fractions, algebra, quadratic equations, and many more.

Reciting method of multiplication table is making its way back schools in the UK.

Why Maths is not boring?

Maths is only boring when someone does not understand it. In fact, with the correct perspective, every human (almost every) has the ability to understand Maths. Just take a look at the numbers 1 (positive), 0 (zero) and -1 (negative), we could see these as something, nothing and future things (include the sweets that you owe me). Or we could say number 1 meaning move right, 0 means don't move, and -1 means move left. Many children love to play computer/mobile games nowadays. Underlying these are Maths, and Maths is fun to play with.

Kumon Maths helps

Kumon Maths helps to build strong foundation in mathematics.
It is like when someone wants to build a house, he needs strong foundation so he could build floor, walls, windows, doors and roof on it. That strong foundation comes from extra piling of strong pillars/wood/rocks. Likewise, doing Kumon Maths is that extra solid practices that build maths foundation.

Why I send my child to Kumon?

My daughter started Kumon English when she was 9 years old. At that time, her proficiency of English language was good, yet my husband and I still decided to enroll her for Kumon English subject.

I wanted her to excel in the subject that she loves, and to expose her to well-crafted international reading program. Kumon program also instill in her good study habit, independent learning  and perseverance.

One month before her 12th birthday, she successfully became English completer in Kumon program.

She is more than happy for her achievement and has gained tremendous knowledge through her experience in Kumon English reading materials.

We are very proud of her. We are sure that she is more prepared for advanced level study in her coming high school study.
